Getting to know Guyana

  #4

The beautiful island of Guyana is what most would say a blended pot. For sometime the boundaries of Guyana and which part belonged to who was fought over multiple times by British, Dutch, and French.  Many different ethic groups settled there like East Indians, Africans, Chinese, Portuguese and Europeans. With all these different cultures in this one place they usually all celebrate one anothers holidays and tradition. In Guyana the citizens appreciate every culture and show their appreciation for it by doing their own perception of it. Things like celebrating and mixing everyone’s way is what makes the people from Guyana different as well as the place. Every Guyanaese person is not the same as they all do different but similar things. The history of Guyana is so rich because of the many different cultures that have influenced it over time. While being very diverse is an advantage living in Guyana is not always the best being one of the poorest countries in South America. This brings in the topic would Guyana be a more wealthier country if all the resources found there and all the smart individuals in prestigious careers stay and build up the community more. Typical bigger countries take the resources from Guyana yet the country itself is still “poor” and most people who become doctors, lawyers, etc. typically move away. If the country kept its resources and citizens stayed put would it be wealthier than what it is now?

  1. I think you have some great facts here. To feel less like an essay, try breaking the text into a couple different paragraphs and adding relating pictures. Perhaps giving some more examples of their blended culture, either with music, food, or festivals.
